Mecha are self-propelling machines that are modeled after humans; some can change into multiple, non-humanoid formats as well. They're usually controlled by an internal pilot or by remote, but are sometimes sentient beings that move autonomously. A mecha's size ranges from bulky, wearable armor to a massive, towering contraption and beyond. While mecha have a wide range of applications, such as making manual labor easier, they are most commonly portrayed as heavily-armed war machines.
Sometime in the distant future, mankind is forced to live in domed cities while the rest of the world is left to recover from years of environmental hardships. In the Siberian Dome-polis, professional gamer Gainer Sanga and mercenary Gain Bijou commandeer an Overman and lead a mass exodus out of the city.
Atom is created by Dr. Tenma as a replacement for his human son Tobio following the boy's death in a car accident. Despite his best of intentions, Tenma soon becomes frustrated that Atom never grows any taller and continues to make mistakes as he learns to harness his robot powers. In a moment of mental weakness, Tenma sells Atom to the owner of the Robot Circus, but is soon rescued by the newly appointed head of the Ministry of Science, the kindly Dr. Ochanomizu.
In the adventures to come, Atom proves himself time and again, helping with rogue robots, desperate criminals, missions to other planets and even finding time to attend school.
Along the way he is helped by his teacher, Shunsaku "Higeoyaji" Ban, his friends, his sister Uran and the rest of his robot family.
In the near future, Tokyo was left flattened as a result from a great earthquake. Genom created and mass-produced biomechanical creatures called Boomers to aid in the restoration of MegaTokyo. When the Boomers began to run out of control, the ADPolice at first tried to stop them, but they proved to be far more difficult to deal with than was first imagined. Under the ever looming Boomer threat, a group of four girls from varying degrees of society banded together. Calling themselves The Knight Sabers, they were the only ones with enough firepower and resourcefulness to defend the fledgling MegaTokyo from Genom and its berserk Boomers.
Dr. Hell and his Mechanical Beasts are back, and they're more dangerous than ever before. In 20xx, a civil war broke out in a small country in Asia in spite of the dispatch of UN forces. The East German Army 666th TSF Squadron "Schwarzesmarken" (Black Marks) are a special-forces unit tasked with assaulting BETA forces through unconventional tactics; specifically, they target Lux and Magnus Lux to deny the BETA the advantage of ranged firepower. Their orders are given the topmost priority, such that it is common practice for the 666th to ignore allied distress calls that will result in deviation from their original mission, even if only for a short moment.
The 666th Squadron mostly operates MiG-21s, with their squadron commander Irisdena Bernhard piloting an MiG-21PF.

Kyougoku Daijirou is the 15th generation owner of the Kyoto sweets shop Amashoudou. One day, Daijirou discovers a giant robot named Doamaiger D in his store's basement. At the same time, enemies called "Mekaijuu" appear in Kyoto and begin wreaking havoc.
